Law Enforcement Request Policy
Last updated: March 2026
Our Approach
We respect our users' privacy and will only disclose user data to law enforcement when legally compelled to do so. We scrutinize all requests for legal validity.
What We Require
| Request Type | Legal Process Required |
|---|---|
| Basic subscriber info (name, email) | Valid subpoena |
| Account activity logs | Court order (18 U.S.C. 2703(d)) |
| Content of communications | Search warrant |
| Real-time monitoring | Wiretap order |
Our Process
- Verify the request is valid, properly scoped, and from a legitimate authority.
- Narrow overly broad requests to the minimum necessary.
- Notify the user before disclosing, unless legally prohibited (e.g., by court order or gag provision).
- Disclose only the specific data required by the legal process.
- Document all requests for our transparency report.
Emergency Requests
In genuine emergencies involving danger of death or serious physical injury, we may disclose information without a court order. We evaluate these requests on a case-by-case basis.
Preservation Requests
We will preserve account records for 90 days upon receipt of a valid preservation request from law enforcement, renewable for an additional 90 days.
